Character Info
Character Name: Link
Canon/Canon Point: The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, post-game
Character Age: Physically, he appears to be about 10 years old, but he's done a lot of time traveling that's made him wiser and smarter than the average 10 year old. Mentally, he's probably closer to someone in their mid-teens. Between that and the very harrowing, often horror-themed adventures he's been through in both Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask, he'll be a good fit for a horror setting like Ashbrook. He can take care of himself!
History: Relevant wiki page would be the Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask sections on this page. But I also have a shorter version on his general info page here!

Powers:
- For the most part, physically, Link is a regular young Hylian boy. He doesn't really have powers so much as he has a wide range of skills that are pretty unusual for a kid his age, mainly related to combat experience.
- Link has an extremely powerful, holy item known as the Triforce of Courage embedded in his left hand. This object bestows him with heightened physical endurance and mental willpower, allowing him to keep going in dangerous and stressful situations.
- Link can use magic in the sense that he has the physical and mental capacity to use it. However, any propensity for magic that he has was taught or given to him by others. Since he loses his magic abilities between games, I'm fine saying that he has to relearn how magic works in Ashbrook.
- Link has several magical and non-magical items that he'll be bringing with him to Ashbrook. This includes:
— Standard equipment of sword, shield, and bow
— Ocarina of Time, a magic instrument that can influence people and things around it when played. List of specific songs and effects is here.
— Transformation masks. Link has three special masks on him that allow him to transform into non-human creatures, plus a fourth mask that allows him to channel a powerful god into his body. Information about each of these are as follows: Deku, Zora, Goron, and Fierce Deity. Please let me know if there's any specific nerfs to how these would work in Ashbrook... maybe their transformation powers only work when out in the woods, but the transformation itself won't dispel if he walks back into town? Or, would it dispel? Just let me know how this would work with the in-town power nerf. <3

Role in Ashbrook
Character Skills: swordfighting, archery, hunting, playing musical instruments, horseback riding, photography, keeping up on gossip/rumors/local news, communicating with monsters or spirits

Character Values: loyalty, protecting the innocent, friendship, adventure, puzzle-solving, respect for nature, food and local culture, religious faith

Role Opt-Outs: This is less a role opt-out than a details opt-out, if that's okay? Link is an orphan who, basically, has no home and lives outside by himself. So I'd prefer a role for him where he does not live with happy nuclear family. Something more like an orphanage, foster care, or even just being a latchkey kid or something with very little adult supvervision, would fit him much better. I also just don't really want to have to NPC his parents that often.

Bonus details?: Yes!

Personality
As a result of his early problems with fitting in at Kokiri Forest, Link is a very friendly and optimistic young boy on the outside. He has a playful sense of humor and enjoys small talk. His friendliness is not a facade, but it is at least partially fueled by his need to feel accepted and wanted. He is resilient and selfless, and while ostracization is a constant in his life, it did not hurt him as acutely as it would for someone with more sensitive feelings. Link is eager to make friends and he will readily agree to help others with their problems, often without taking a moment to think about whether it is something he can handle.

Link has a strong devotion to justice. His belief in the goodness of others makes him willing to trust strangers, but after his lengthy adventures it's not without the knowledge that they could be bad people. Rather, Link simply isn't afraid of what could happen to him if a stranger did turn out to be a bad egg. It was easy for him to accept the duty hoisted onto him by his destiny because he truly wanted to help and was unafraid to put himself in danger to do so. Link is willing to forgive former enemies, if possible. Thus, even though his battles and responsibilities forced the boy to mature, he can still be naive because of his idealistic nature. This is an essential personality trait to have as the Hero, because it allows him to be brave in the face of danger even when it would otherwise be foolish.

However, being the Hero of Time has forced him to mature much more rapidly than any normal child. He has been in countless life-threatening situations with nobody but himself to rely upon to get him out alive. As a result of this, Link has a tendency to take on too much responsibility and not to ask help from others when necessary. This can sometimes appear to be overconfidence, and to a certain extent it can be, but for the most part Link simply assumes that it's up to him to fix everything and that he must endure that responsibility on his own. This is especially true after experience the events in Majora's Mask, where he would live the same 3-day time loop over and over, nobody around him knowing anything about the prior loops. This task only forced Link to become even more self-reliant and secluded from others. Making friends was basically impossible when he'd have to constantly rewind to three days prior, erasing everything he had done. He came to know everyone around him, but nobody knew him in return. This also enforced his sense of duty to others and needing to take care of everyone without thanks, almost like an unseen parent.

After he successfully and finally saves Termina, he is doesn't stick around - he's eager to move on in his search for Navi. After all, once again, only a few people in Termina would have remembered everything he did to save it, and none of them knew anything about what he'd done in Hyrule. Although Link is being taken from right after the game, we learn in Twilight Princess that after the events of Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask, Link felt regret that nobody remembered what he did to save countless lives. Link is not motivated by greed or fame and appears to harbor no anguish over being forced into his destiny as the Hero of Time, so this regret was more likely caused by his loneliness and desire to be acknowledged and appreciated by others. Even though it's his destiny to be a solitary, independent swordsman who single-handedly protects entire kingdoms, he still needs other people and craves companionship.
